It seems that "feeling safe" is one of the pleasures of wearing and wetting a nappy. You describe your disposables as pretty usless, and therefore subconciously feel they are likely to leak which in turn inhibits wetting; but safe and snug in your rubber pants and confident that you won't leak, the mind feels able to let you pee in your nappy.
