Until recently I regularly wet my bed without any protection and loved my old smelly, always dam and heavily stained matteras. It was only when I finally got a new one because the old one finally collapesed from rusty springs and being rotted out from the constant wetting that i decided i must protect the new one as the cost was so much. I now use terry towelling protectors which give a very similar wet bed feeling.
