You are so very right David, most second language speakers' grammar and spelling are almost impeccable and most American and UK students do write horribly. Although some works of literature are written in this way, I think it is that they text and post to each other in this manner and then just assume that it is acceptable at all times.
I myself am a horrible speller. When I was younger, a few times I didn’t spell check my work and people quite rudely pointed out my mistakes. Wanting to be taken seriously, I started being much more diligent about spellchecking. I guess I hoped that being nicer about pointing out that is REALLY hard to read and understand his work, bedwwetterr isn’t as mortified as I was, but still learns the same lesson I did.
Oh, and I agree, Firefox is quicker to use then cutting and pasting. It’s just that its spell checker isn’t as good and therefore it doesn’t help us poor spellers that much.
And I have to agree with you also about punishment. I’m not into it, but would be interested in seeing the bed.
