That was standard operating equipment on my bed as a youth. It was on top of a crinkley plastic matterss cover.It was in case my cloth diapers and plastic panties leaked. As I got older there were times when the night diapers were taken off and the pad was on top of the sheets. We had several kinds, one of which had a plastic wetproof backing. I became fond of those thick quilted cotton pads.
