I have a vivid memory of being 8 and in the store with my mom as we headed down the aisle with all the baby care stuff and she lifted the big box of Pampers into our cart. It wasn't until about 5 minutes later that I realized she got them for me. Only then did I remember my mom's declaration of "I'm going to get you some diapers!" that morning.
I don't know how long I had been wetting the bed, but I do remember I'd gotten several warnings about going back to diapers if I didn't dry up. Now I saw it was coming true.
When we got home I had to take the Pampers up to my room, then I went outside & played. After dinner and my bath, mom came with me into my room, and told me again that she was putting me back in diapers at night.
I didn't protest all that much, but inside I was crushed. I asked her, "Can I please have just one more chance?", but the look on my mom's face answered that question before I'd even finished asking it. I didn't put up any fight after that because I didn't want my dad to hear and get involved. Basically, when my dad got involved in an argument between my mom and me or my sister, it meant someone was getting spanked.
Once I laid down on my bed and mom started to diaper me, I started bawling. I kept it up long enought that my mom, dad, and sister all came in to try and calm me down. I remember my dad telling me the "big girl" thing to do was to just accept that I needed the diapers and that to cry about wearing them was the babyish thing to do. It didn't help at all that night but I did say that to myself later on.
So that was how bedtimes went for me, with a lot less tears after the first week or so, for the next 5 years until I finally stopped wetting a while after I hit puberty.
