"Jane" and "Carole" were the names of the first two women I saw wearing cloth diapers, 'way back in 1972. Both had bowel problems and needed bulky diapers that were plainly visible, even under dresses. In those days there were no Depend or other reliable disposable adult diapers, especially if you were a heavy wetter or messer. So you had to wear thick cloth under plastic pants; the telltale sign was an unusually big bottom and/or a butt that jutted far out from the back, especially on a woman who otherwise had an average figure.
Jane and Carole were responsible for my getting into this wacky obsession of ours, so my handle honors them. Funny thing is, Jane is still around, and I live not far from her! I wouldn't dare venture into her upscale neighborhood, though...and I'm sure that 36 years later, medical advances have cured or at least improved her problems and she no longer has to wear diapers.
